Ganesh Indian Cuisine

A coworker of mine has been telling me to go to Ganesh on Commerce in Longview for awhile now. I have never had Indian food before but had high hopes for it. Eric and I decided to eat there for lunch today. I was pretty excited. Come to find out it has a small buffet for lunch. I went down the table looking at everything on the line….I didn’t have a fucking clue what any of this shit was.

Here’s what I had on my plate:

The tandori chicken and the butter chicken were very good. I don’t know what the other stuff was but it was terrible. After this plate I had some rice pudding that was god awful.

Along with the yucky food, the atmosphere was awful. We felt like we interrupted a family argument. My coworker did say that this was how she felt in there. I totally understand now. The couple that runs the place just hovers over you most of the time and rarely say anything. It was super uncomfortable.

2 out of 5 stars. I probably wont go back here anytime soon.

Parkers Steakhouse and Brewery

Today Eric and I decided to try Parkers on Ocean Beach in Longview, WA. We went for the lunch (of course) and to try some beer.

For our appetizer, we ordered some cheese bread:

This was my favorite item! Crunchy, cheesey garlic bread for only 3 bucks! Yumm.

Eric went with the Bacon Burger :

He said its was really good. Lots of meaty goodness. The fries were simply awesome! Really crispy and flavorful. He did say he didn’t care much for the burger sauce, which to me just looked like mayo and katsup.

For me, I went with the Chicken Pesto Sandwich:

Yumyumyumyumyum! It did come with a chipotle mayo, but i had them leave it off. The chicken had the pesto grilled on it making it super flavorful. Plus I had the same fries Eric did so i didn’t eat all his.

Even though we walked in the snow…

I give it 4 our of 5. Marking off a star because it was a little spendy for a lunch menu. I know that I will eat here again though.

Okay, to interrupt all of the Sherlock angst on my dash, here’s a picture of the cake my family/friends made me for my belated birthday dinner. The decoration was my sister’s idea, and other than the grammar mistake, it is absolutely perfect.  My family’s the best.

Hehehehe

Here’s what has been taking up my time…

This Monday was my roommate’s birthday. So why not make her a cake right?

She is really into The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I wanted to do an 8in round cake with that theme.

Here’s the issues”

  1. I lack fondant
  2. I lack an airbrush machine
  3. I lack parchment paper (for making tiny detailing bags)

After snooping around www.cakecentral.com I saw a lot of cakes done as the patchwork of Sally’s dress…..sadly, they were all done with either fondant or airbrushing. Yet, I did it. Check it out!

                  And here’s how I did it….

I started off with a very thin dirty ice and placed it back in the freezer for a few hours.

For the sold color of the patches I did one color and one patch at a time….yes…one fucking patch at a time. I could finish about two colors before the cake would start warming up. when this happened I just put it back in the freezer for about a hour and start over.

After the patches were done, I piped out all the stitching and patch design.

Total cake time: 5 hours…

I am crazy proud of myself because of this cake. Also because this was all done by hand. No fondant, no airbrush, just top quality SKILLZ.

And yes, she loved it. :D

I have never seen anything like this before and I feel the need to share.

At the Quenary Academy in Malaysia they teach a special kind of cake decorating. They call it clay art cakes. It is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in the culinary world.

By spinning their turntable repeatedly they use different tools to shape the whipping cream in different shapes and patterns.

I would love to learn how to do this…

Here’s a video I found that shows a simple demonstration on how it’s done. If you search on YouTube you can find a ton of them.
